International Peace Toast

PURPOSE
At each family fellowship dinner a member selects a club, at random, from the International Rotary Directory. Your members raise their beverage glasses and  present a toast of fellowship to that selected club.

A letter, and club banner, is then sent to that  Rotary Club  explaining our project, telling them something about our club and about our city, and suggesting that they might also adopt this same project and select, toast and send a similar greeting to other Rotary Clubs around the world.

in the interest of greater fellowship, international  understanding and world peace...... Hear, Hear!!!!

PROCESS
At each dinner meeting we display a large 3 x 4 colored world map (on large display board), with small round stickers identifying the International Rotary Clubs that have been previously randomly selected.

1. Identify a week in each month for the project to be done.

2. At that monthly meeting, read aloud the purpose of the International Peace Toast.  This is especially interesting to new members or guests.

3. Have a club member randomly pick a page between   C-107  &   617 , or  C-790  &
C-851. Avoid pages 618 - 739, which are Rotary clubs in the USA, (2004-2005 Official Directory of Rotary International).

4. That Rotary member places his/her finger randomly on the page, and reads out the name of the selected Rotary Club and it's country.

5. Members then raise their glasses and the chairperson reads the "International Peace Toast" and  inserts  the name of that  identified International Rotary Club, with the club members responding, Hear, Hear!!

6.  A form letter, and your club banner, is then mailed to that selected club, and a new pin/sticker is placed upon the map to show where the club is located.

Note:
Club Secretary............Page C-1 of the Officiial Directory explains how to read for the President's name and club address. The project chairperson should maintain a list of toasted clubs and read any responses to the general membership.

SAMPLE LETTER

Dear President __________:

The President and members of the Rotary Club of  Wellington, Florida send greetings to your club and members of your families. We send you this letter, our club banner and brochure, as a token of our friendship.

Each month our club selects, at random, a club from the International Directory. Our members’  then honor a toast of fellowship to that selected club. On July 5th, we selected your club, and following is the toast we offered to your members.

“The Wellington International Rotary Club offers this toast to  the  Shi  Heung  International  Rotary  Club, of Shi  Heung, Korea in the interest of greater fellowship, international understanding and world peace. Hear, Hear!!!â€

You may like to know some information about our club. We received our Rotary Charter in 1979. Now, over 25 years later, our membership has risen from 27 to 50+. Our main fund raising activities are an antique car show, a local carnival, the Wellington Mayor's Roast/Ball and a Casino Night . We have an annual budget of U.S. $84,000., which we use to assist numerous charitable organizations, benevolent donations and annual scholarships. We support many international projects, including PolioPlus and programs in the Philippines,  Jamaica, Brazil, New Guinea, Italy, Paraguay, and Rwanda.  We have a Centennial Sister Rotary Club in Wellington, New Zealand, with which we share mutual  projects.

Wellington is a 5 year old village of about 50,000 people on the edge of the Florida Everglades and about 18 miles west of Palm Beach and the Atlantic Ocean. We have many miles of manicured horse trails within the village limits. Wellington is one of the foremost world class polo centers in the world. There are numerous beautiful equestrian farm facilities that support 7000 horses annually brought into Wellington from all over the world for equestrian activities at 2 polo clubs and our Equestrian Center competitions. Wellington hosts three outstanding 18 hole golf and country clubs.

In the interest of Rotary fellowship, may we suggest that you continue this gesture of goodwill and world understanding by adopting this same monthly project, and then selecting, toasting and sending a similar greeting to other Rotary Clubs around the world.
