                                      Wellington Rotary Club Presents Final
Students of the Month Awards for this School Year

The Wellington Rotary Club, the local organization chartered by Rotary International, a philanthropic and service organization, presented its last Student of the Month awards for this school year to Amy Levine and Jaclyn Watts, both seniors at Wellington High School and to Taylor Smith and Ashley Star Miller, both seniors at Palm Beach Central High School. Presentations were made at the regular weekly meeting of the club on Tuesday, May 15, 2007. Attending the awards presentation and luncheon were the students’ immediate family members who were extremely proud of their accomplishments both inside and outside the school environment. All four of the recipients’ acceptance speeches to the club demonstrated their ability and desire to help others within the school environment and their community as a whole. Each explained their meaning of volunteerism and talked about their future endeavors including their college plans.
All four recipients are exemplary students and were selected from numerous candidates at their respective schools by its faculty as the students who “proved himself/herself to be beneficial to the school, religious organization or the community as a whole” by performing some type of service or act(s) demonstrating the Rotary International motto “Service Above Self”.

Amy Levine was nominated by Paul Gaba from Wellington High School who proclaims “Amy is an honor student who has been recognized nationally and as a debater, was a member of the Palm Beach County Youth Court program. She has shown outstanding leadership qualities and has the admiration of her fellow students.
She has won numerous awards and accolades for her works not only on the debate team but also for her desire to give back to her fellow students, school, and community.”

“Jaclyn Watts is known to be a dependable, conscientious, hard working, and self-motivated student according to faculty members and fellow students” says Lawrence Oliver, Wellington High School staff member. He also states that
“In addition to her accomplishments this year in CECF/BPA Jaclyn also held Public Relations office for the Wellington High School Key Club in 2006 and representative of Student Government Association. As a senior, Jaclyn was elected President of her local chapter of CECF, Secretary of the WHS Key Club, and inducted into the Chemistry Honor Society. Her services in the Key Club have included playing bingo with the Veteran Administration Nursing Home and cleaning up the Singer Island Beach regularly. She works closely with the Singer Island Sunrise Kiwanis Club in order to help all of those in need”.

Taylor Smith is the definition of “Service Above Self” at Palm Beach Central High School.  Marissa DeTar, Taylor’s nominating faculty member from Palm Beach Central High School stated that “Every moment that she spends at school working on a project for Student Government will in some way benefit the entire student body, not just her organization.  She works very hard to help promote the spirit and energy of being a Bronco.  Taylor does a lot for the school while maintaining her position in FBLA, being a member of the swim team, and holding a job.  She is passionate about leadership and she shares this passion with those around her.  She takes every opportunity to enhance her leadership ability by attending workshops and conferences“. Just in this past year, she has been to Philadelphia, Washington DC, and leadership training camp in South Florida.
Ashley Star Miller was nominated by Lawrence A. Dailey, school Coordinator and stated that the reason for this student being nominated was because “Ashley stands out in several categories, not only for two years in our Career Education DCT Program, but also in her dedication to school work, and assisting others to be more successful in school. She has risen to a managerial level on her after school job, and handles all of those responsibilities with aplomb and attention to detail. She is an excellent student, has high aspirations for post-high school academic work, and partakes in school activities as time permits. Her outside activities include volunteering at Okeheelee Middle School and various other fundraisers for the community
The Wellington Rotary Student of the Month Award is presented monthly to “deserving students who are not necessarily the school valedictorians nor are grade point averages a deciding factor in the selection process” states Jay Broder, Rotary Student of the Month chairperson.
