Wellington Rotary Club Presents First Student of the Month Award

The Wellington Rotary Club, the local organization chartered by Rotary International, a philanthropic and service organization, presented its first Student of the Month award to Michael Dunbar of Palm Beach Central High School at the monthly evening meeting of the club on Thursday, February 22, 2007. Attending the awards presentation and dinner was Michael’s immediate family who were extremely proud of his accomplishments both inside and outside the school environment. Michael’s humble acceptance speech to the club demonstrated his ability and desire to help others while thanking the Rotary Club and school faculty for his nomination

Michael was selected from numerous candidates at his school by its faculty as the student who “proved himself to be beneficial to the school, religious organization or the community as a whole” by performing some type of service or act(s) demonstrating the Rotary International motto “Service above Self”.

Carl Rosenberg, the school’s Life Management Skills instructor praised Mr. Dunbar’s selection by stating that “not only is he a Congressional Award winner for his community service, the variety of service and the phenomenal number of hours Michael selflessly contributes surpasses many of his peers.  He is involved in community, charity, religious, school, and neighborhood endeavors, and he’s traveled from Palm Beach County to Panama and elsewhere to share his time, his talents, and his efforts with a generous spirit and a loving heart.  Michael is truly a “giver” in the most genuine sense of the word—neither asking nor expecting anything in return—and one who has grown immensely and reaped the rewards of his altruism in his solid values and extraordinary character.

The Wellington Rotary Student of the Month Award is presented monthly to “deserving students who are not necessarily the school valedictorians nor are grade point averages a deciding factor in the selection process” states Jay Broder, Rotary Student of the Month Chairperson.
